Sensory smart strategies for SNA’s and SET’S

Overall Aim To equip SNA’s with the necessary knowledge, Organisational Skills and Tools to support children with special needs effectively, with an informed sensitivity to their unique sensory experiences.   Adopting a SENSORY lens promotes a deeper understanding of what it is feels like to be a child with special needs and directs the teacher/SNA to an exciting range of sensory and sensory-motor strategies to bring more effectiveness and fun into supporting learning.

OBJECTIVES

  • Deepen understanding of the sensory experiences of children with special needs.
  • Understand the rational for movement breaks -inside classroom/elsewhere.
  • Explore a diverse range of sensory-motor strategies to enhance support.
  • Consider the essential elements of an effective sensory-motor break.
  • Explore how certain types of activities enhance foundations for learning.
  • Study protocols for handling a meltdown.
